FS1 is a time for the children to explore, discover and learn through play.
In FS1 we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum which involves planning and teaching activities and experiences for children to learn across seven main areas of learning. These are as follows: –
3 Prime areas of learning
- Communication and Language
- Physical Development
- Personal, Social and Emotional development
4 Specific areas of learning
- Understanding the World
– Expressive Arts and Design
We make sure the children have a broad opportunity to explore and discover things for themselves, because we want them to become independent, excited learners.
In our FS1 class, children will experience a combination of whole class teaching sessions, small group adult-led learning and well planned purposeful child initiated activities. Children move freely between the indoor and outdoor areas and are continually supported and challenged in their learning by all of our staff in the Foundation Stage Team. As the children progress through the year the amount of structure during the sessions is gradually increased to ensure that all of our children are confident, independent learners ready to enter their next phase of education in FS2!
