Dear Parents and Carers,

Some of you may have read or heard recent reports in the media regarding comments relating to the national teaching of sexual relationships education made by one of our school governors.
I am writing to you to say although Reverend Hughes is entitled to his views, these are not the views held either by St. Alban’s CE Primary school or the Diocese of Sheffield Academies Trust, to which we belong. Nor do we agree with these views.
We are fully behind the new Department for Education proposals around the new Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) teaching curriculum; but as with any changes to our children’s education, we will inform and work with parents before the full implementation in 2020.
If any further action needs to be taken as a result of the comments being made, this will be a matter for our trust and the Diocese.
We have not been informed of any further media interest. However, should there be any further interest, this could potentially see members of the media being outside the school.
The media are not allowed uninvited onto school grounds but please be aware they can be outside school gates legitimately and may well approach people for comment.
If you want to talk about any of the issues raised here please do not hesitate to get in touch with me directly.

Yours faithfully
Alison Adair
Executive Headteacher
