Today in collective worship we have been learning about democracy. On Monday 9th July the electoral roll will be setting up a polling station in our school hall. This is a great opportunity for the children to experience voting and learn about British values.
We will be asking the children to vote on which charity they would like the school to support. Which charity will they vote for? Here are their options:
Cancer Research UK
Bluebell Wood Hospice
Rotherham Food Bank
House leaders will be counting the votes and we will inform you of the result.
Today is St Alban’s Day
Our school sets huge value on the quality of courage so let’s take a moment to think about St Alban’s courageous act.
St Alban is venerated as the first recorded Christian martyr in England. His death came as a result of him shielding a priest to whom he had given refuge. It is in the nature of this story that it concerns one who gave his life for his values and beliefs.
Though a legend the story embodies something of the vulnerability that is required if we are to act in courage. Alban quite literally cloaks himself with the garment of the one he seeks to protect and, in doing so, takes his place.

Yesterday, House Leaders had a wonderful time meeting the Mayor of Rotherham and Councillor Cutts at Rotherham Town Hall.
The children sat in the chambers and asked the Mayor questions about her role. Then we were given a tour of the Town Hall.
We hope this trip inspired the children to think about what difference they can make to improve our community.
After hours of debate we are pleased to present the winners of the house shield competition.
Each winner will receive 50 house points for their team and a special prize at the end of half term.
Thank you for all of your entries-this was a very tough competition.
House points have been counted and verified and I’m very pleased to announce that House Jericho have won the St Alban’s Cup.
The results are as follows:
1st Jericho-1144 house points
2nd Sinai- 989 house points
3rd Jordan- 972 house points
4th Carmel- 913 house points
Amelia and Jonathan have requested that House Jericho have a pizza party when we come back in the new year. We will confirm the date of the party after the Christmas Holidays.
