Our School Rules

By Community, Equality, Letters to Parents, Mental Health, News, Newsletter, Policies, PSHE

This week we have been discussing our school rules:

Be responsible
Be respectful
Be ready to learn

With the children, we have been looking at how these rules fit into good habits in every aspect of civil and academic conduct.

In collective worship, we launched a competition for the children to design a poster that advertises our school rules. If your child would like to take part in the competition, all entries need to be returned to school by Friday 17th September.

Thank you,

Mrs Gurner

Diversity

By Collective worship, Community, Equality, House Carmel, House Jericho, House Jordan, House Sinai, PSHE

This half term, we have been learning about diversity. We asked every child in the school to complete a questionnaire to find out what diversity means to them.

This week our house leaders have been super busy interviewing children to prepare a diversity assembly that we are going to show at school tomorrow. House leaders worked so hard to conduct the interviews in a covid safe way.

Here is a trailer for their assembly.

Well done St Alban’s!

Class Elections

By Collective worship, Community, House Carmel, House Jericho, House Jordan, House Sinai, PSHE

Today our lovely house leaders led collective worship for the whole school.

In this meeting, house leaders discuss class elections that are happening on the 6th May. We think it is important that our children learn about democracy, preparing them to live and thrive in modern Britain.

Watch this film to find out more.

Thank you,

Y3 Science Experiment- How do different liquids effect our teeth?

By PSHE, Science, Uncategorized, Year 3

Children in Y3 (both at home and in school) have been investigating the effect that different liquids have on our teeth.  To do this, we used egg shells to represent the teeth and placed these in plastic cups filled with a variety of different liquids. We left the eggs to soak for a week before closely observing and comparing the egg shells! It’s safe to say we will all be thinking twice before drinking sugary drinks and will make sure that we clean our teeth regularly to protect them. Before carrying out our experiment, we considered how we could ensure that it would be a fair test and also made our own predictions about what would happen.

World Book Day – Thursday 4th March

The Masked Reader

To celebrate World Book Day, we want our children to film themselves reading an extract from their favourite book in disguise. On Monday 8th March, when all of our children return to school- yeah! We will show the recordings in class. Can children guess the person behind the mask? What are they reading? We hope that this activity will be lots of fun for everyone.

Mrs Teale and Mr Frelich (our English Leaders), are delivering collective worship on Monday 1st March. In this assembly, they will tell you all about World Book Day and answer any questions that you may have.

Further details:

-On Thursday 4th March, key worker children can come to school dressed in their disguise and record their masked read with the support of their teaching assistant.

-All masked readings need to be sent to the class teacher through Class Dojo – before Monday 8th March.

-Recordings to be no longer than 30 seconds.

Key Stage Assembly: Children’s Mental Health Week

By Collective worship, Equality, PSHE

At school, we normally have key stage collective worship on a Thursday. During this time we learn about different religious events and explore special days and weeks.

This week is Children’s Mental Health Week and for the next two days I’ll post videos that we were planning to look at in school.

This year’s theme is Express Yourself. How do you express yourself? It is important to express yourself or how you are feeling?

Here is a short film showing how some people express themselves through art.
