Maths Meeting for Parents in Year 3 and Year 4

By Maths, Year 3, Year 4

Thank you to all the parents who came to our first Maths Meeting this afternoon.  We shared St Alban’s journey to maths mastery and our belief that EVERYONE can do maths.  We discussed the importance of fluency and the children being flexible in their thinking so that they notice things and use what they know.

We shared how we use concrete apparatus such as counters to support the children’s understanding and had a go at addition and subtraction calculations.

If you have any questions about what we did or would like to ask for support in other areas of maths, please see Mrs Staniforth.

Our next meeting is at 2:15 on Friday 20th March.  All Year 3 and 4 parents are welcome.  Please ring or email Mrs. Tune to book your place.

Shadow Puppet Theatre in Y3!

By Art, Design Technology, Science, Year 3

To round off our learning all about light and shadows, we put on a show today using lollipop sticks, a torch and Mr Woodhouse! We know that opaque objects make the best shadows by blocking the light so created characters using black cardboard. Our theatre was not the most professional looking but it certainly did the job, with extra thanks to Mr Woodhouse and his expert torch holding!

Well done year 3, it is brilliant to see you apply what you have learnt this half term!

Y3 Are Computer Programmers of the Future

By Computing, Year 3

Each Monday afternoon, Year 3 have been working super hard as computer game programmers on a fantastic online resource called Scratch. We have learnt all about inputting algorithms to give instructions and today had a go at creating our own animations using the same principles. The confidence the children have gained during this time is amazing and I am so impressed with how well they have done! Definitely computer programmers of the future!
