How Has St Albans Helped You Grow Spiritually?
By Phoebe (Year 6)
Hello my name is Phoebe and I am school ambassador for St Albans. I recently interviewed five children from different classes about how St Albans has helped them grow spiritually and got some amazing answers. Here are the interviews below:
Firstly, I asked Olivia, “How has St Albans helped you to be a better person?” and she stated, “It inspires me to be a better person because God is always there.” Then I said, “What makes St Albans different to other schools?” and she replied, “The teachers are really good at teaching me about God and what he did.” Next I asked, “What is your most memorable collective worship and why did it make you think?” and Olivia answered, “I liked the bread and fish teaching, it made me think – because the boy in the story had so little but God made it so big.” After that, I inquired, “What types of worship do you prefer?” and her answer was, “I like worship through singing and my favorite song is ‘I The Lord of Sea and Sky’.
I started by asking Jonathan, “How has St Albans helped you be a better person?” and he replied, “It’s made me feel happier because my school has taught me that we can all be forgiven for everything we have done wrong because Jesus took the punishment.” Then I said, “What makes St Albans different to other schools?” His answer was, “St Albans helps me to concentrate more on my beliefs and we watch videos which help me learn the most.” After, I asked, “What is your most memorable collective worship and why did it make you think?” He answered, “I really like the open the book collective worships because you can have really good fun whilst learning.” Next I asked, “What types of worship do you prefer?” and he stated: “I prefer worship through singing and my favorite song is ‘Father Abraham’ because it’s got fun dance moves.”
I began the interview with Rory by asking, “How has St Albans helped you be a better person?” and he replied, “I think St Albans teaches me things I need to know- I find that helpful to know that if I ever go anywhere that includes a lot of rules that my school has prepared me.” Then I asked, “What makes St Albans different to other schools?” and he answered, “Our school teaches us about God but if I go to another school they might not have as big of an opportunity to learn things like this.” Next I said, “What is you most memorable collective worship?” and his answer was, “I like Mr Frelich’s collective worships because he teaches us about other religions as well, and I sometimes wonder what it would be like to follow the rules of other religions.” After I said, “I like praying because it’s just you and God speaking and it’s what I do in my quiet time.” And finally I asked, “Whats your favorite song?” and his answer was, “Every Move I Make.”
To begin with I asked Aliza, “How has St Albans helped you be a better person?” she answered, “It’s helped me understand R.E. more so I know what it’s all about now and my teachers and family help me learn about it too.” I then said, “How is St Albans different to other schools?” and she replied, “It’s different because when we learn R.E the teachers make it exciting and we do interesting fun things.” Next I talked about, “What is your favorite collective worship?” then Aliza answered, “I enjoyed the latest ‘Open The Book’ because it was funny how the people wore beards! ” Finally, I asked, “What is your favorite song?” and she stated, “Every Move I Make.”
First of all, I asked Jasmine, “How has St Albans helped you be a better person?” and she replied, “I know that God is always looking after me even at school so I feel happier.” Then I said, “What makes St Albans different to other schools?” and her answer was, “The teachers are really nice and good at teaching us about God- especially Mrs Gurner.” Next I asked, “What was your favorite collective worship?” and Jasmine’s answer was, “I love open the book ones because we get to sing the fun song and learn all about God.” Also I said, “What is your favorite song from school?” and she told me, “My favorite song is ‘Every Move I Make’ because it cheers me up and it is also Jericho’s song and I am in Jericho.”
I would like to thank all of the children I interviewed for being so open and honest about their thoughts and coming up with some lovely answers. You did a great job.
