Year 6 had great fun exploring the use of Cuisenaire Rods in maths. They used these to investigate different equivalents and used them to understand bar modelling.
Y6 visited a local Mosque in Rotherham. Our RE curriculum looks at comparing Christian Aid and Islamic Relief. The visit was very informative and the children got to look at how different or similar churches and mosques are.
The children had a guided tour around the Mosque and learned about cleanliness, prayer and community.
Y6 had a visitor to school to talk about Road Safety. The children recapped on what had been previously learnt at Crucial Crew and related this to moving on to secondary school.
The children learned about the App What3Words and now understand that this is a very useful app for finding a persons location in an emergency.
This term, Y6 have been looking at printing in art. They studied different artists that use printing to produce work and investigated ways to make patterns.
After this, they created their own patterns using pencil crayons or paint. The children then did printing work of their own by using lino printing. They needed to use a small square of lino and carved out a pattern. They used paint to print repeated patterns.
This week is Autism Acceptance Week.

Year 6 have been investigating units of measure. They started out looking at length and measuring objects in the classroom and then they used weighing scales to measure the mass.
Reading scales and converting measures is a very important skill to have.
Year 6 enjoyed a local walk which including different parts of the curriculum.
Geography
Before the walk, the children had practised drawing sketch maps of the school. For the walk, the children had looked at compass points and worked out where North was and then during the walk they continued to look at a compass and relate this to the map we were following.
History
The children learnt about different buildings around Wickersley, what they were used for and when they were built.
Mental Health
Sometimes, it’s just good to get out of the classroom and have fun.
Y6 have been investigating and learning about electrical circuits this half term. They have enjoyed testing whether circuits work, how they can change components and how to draw circuits.
Y6 children have received their new Bibles. Children use them during Collective Worship and also for discussions in the classroom.
Y6 have been working extremely hard during Design and Technology lessons. They have been designing a nightlight for a younger child. Part of their design process was to do market research so they prepared questionnaires for the Y2 children.
