Litter Pick

By Collective worship, Community, House Jericho, PSHE

Last week, Miss Widdop and Mr Dawson led an assembly teaching children about the importance of keeping our environment litter free. Litter endangers our environment, our wildlife, and our economy. It pollutes our neighbourhoods, and destroys our school’s natural beauty.

On a Friday afternoon, children can volunteer to help Mr Hetherington pick litter. Each week, children from different classes can volunteer 20 minutes of their time to keep our school clean.

House Jericho, our eco warriors, have purchased the equipment needed to pick litter safely. In a few weeks, House Jericho will talk about the litter that they have found and discuss ways forward.

Thank you children, we appreciate your support.

Here are a few photos from the litter pick.

Thank you Travis Perkins

By Community, House Jericho

During the Easter Holidays, our Jericho House Leaders, Jasmine and Caleb wrote to local business to get further support to develop our school garden.

Travis Perkins kindly donated new flower beds, sleepers and soil. This week our house leaders visited Chris at Travis Perkins to say a big St Alban’s ‘thank you.’

Thank you,

Mrs Gurner

Y3- Gardening

By Community, Garden, House Jericho, Science, Year 3

Every Friday, Year 3 have been going in small groups to our school garden to help with deweeding, planting and general garden maintenance. There hard work has helped to make our school garden look more beautiful and ready for Summer! We have also been linking our gardening trips to our plants topic in science. Children have been considering what plants need to grow healthily and recalling the parts of plant while in the garden.

Walk to school week 2022

By Community, Geography, House Jericho, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6

Children at St.Alban’s have ditched their cars this week, instead choosing to walk/cycle/jog to school! Not only is this better for the environment but also brilliant for both our physical and mental health. Well done to house Jericho for organising the week and thank you to all children who took part.

Here are some pictures taken from some students’ journeys to school….

Sunflowers for Ukraine

By Fund Raising, House Jericho

With Spring fast approaching, it’s time to brighten your garden with some beautiful sunflowers. House Jericho are selling packets of sunflower seeds and biodegradable pots of sunflower seedlings to help raise money for Save the Children to support Ukrainian families. The Ukrainian national flower is the sunflower so planting these is a symbol of St.Alban’s solidarity with Ukraine.

Sunflower seed packets are £2 each and biodegradable pots of seedlings are £2.50. All money will be going straight to the charity. To order, simply return your order form to your Jericho class ambassador with any payment (or class teacher in FS and KS1.) Orders can either be paid for with cash in an envelope with your name and year group on or online through School money. The deadline for returning complete forms is Friday 25th March.

House Jordan wins the cup!

By Community, House Carmel, House Jericho, House Jordan, House Sinai

A huge congratulations to House Jordan, who have won the House Cup this half term. To celebrate this achievement, today every child in House Jordan has been awarded a blue house badge.

House points are awarded for outstanding effort and exceptional quality work as well as for any child who has shown positive attitudes that go above and beyond the normal high expectation.

Well done House Jordan!

Diversity

By Collective worship, Community, Equality, House Carmel, House Jericho, House Jordan, House Sinai, PSHE

This half term, we have been learning about diversity. We asked every child in the school to complete a questionnaire to find out what diversity means to them.

This week our house leaders have been super busy interviewing children to prepare a diversity assembly that we are going to show at school tomorrow. House leaders worked so hard to conduct the interviews in a covid safe way.

Here is a trailer for their assembly.

Well done St Alban’s!

Class Elections

By Collective worship, Community, House Carmel, House Jericho, House Jordan, House Sinai, PSHE

Today our lovely house leaders led collective worship for the whole school.

In this meeting, house leaders discuss class elections that are happening on the 6th May. We think it is important that our children learn about democracy, preparing them to live and thrive in modern Britain.

Watch this film to find out more.

Thank you,
