Y4 Conscience Alley Drama Activity

By English

Today the Y4s acted out a conscience alley to better understand a character within our book and the choice he had to make.

One line of the alley was in favour of the character doing the action whilst the other line was against it. They gave their reasons to the person walking through the middle to try and persuade them.

Thanks to all the children today for their wonderful effort for World Book Day!

KS2 Reading Tutors

By English, House Carmel, Reading

Meet our reading tutors! Last week, Mr Frelich and I trained these children to listen to infants read. Once a week, our kind tutors will listen to younger children read, to help build their reading fluency.

Community is so important to St Alban’s. The younger children love having this special time with our year 5 and 6 children. What excellent role models we are blessed to have at our school!

Supporting our Children through Books

By Community, English, PSHE, Reading

Unfortunately, most children will experience loss or grief. We want to be here for our children through the good times and the sad times. With the help of Ernie’s Wish, we now have a library of beautiful books that could help children through these challenging times.

Children can loan these books or read them with an adult at school -whatever feels right. Books have such a special way of helping children understand and explore unfamiliar emotions.

Please let us know if your child requires any additional pastural care.

A big thank you to Mrs Mayor, who sourced many of these books from Ernie’s Wish.

Thank you,

Classroom Libraries

By English, House Carmel, Reading

This week we are thrilled to launch our new Classroom Libraries. On class pages, we will post a picture of the library books that your child can take home to read.

With the support of The Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) we have created a list of ‘must’ reads for each year group. These are quality texts that we want our children to encounter.

The attached letter explains how this exciting initiative will work.

As always, if you have any questions then please get in touch with either myself or your child’s class teacher.

Author Day: Friday 1st October

By English, Letters to Parents, Reading

Author: Zowie Norris

Dear Parents, Carers & Children at St Alban’s Primary School,

I am excited to visit your school on Friday 1st October for an ‘Author day’, where I will share my new story ‘Barb the Bird of Hope’. I will talk to the children about my inspiration for the story and my journey to becoming a new Rotherham author and illustrator.

Barb the Bird of Hope

This story is based around the theme of having hope. Barb is an unusual bird who lives in a laburnum tree in Bretton Park. She is a symbol of hope for the other birds in the park and provides hope for some of the daily visitors too. Things take a turn for the worst – a pandemic changes everything and a terrible storm destroys the park and Barb’s tree. Will things get better? Will hope be restored?

With much hope and happiness.
