Local History Month

By Community, History, Visits

Last month was Local History month at St Alban’s. Each class was tasked with learning more about a certain aspect of our local history in Wickersley. From Joe Lister to the Anglo Saxons, we made short trips around our village discovering clues, remnants and symbols from our rich past.

School Uniform Shop

By Community, FS1, FS2, Fund Raising, House Jericho, Letters to Parents, Lost Property, PSHE, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6

We are truly grateful for all of your uniform donations. Every night Mrs Nightingale restocks the clothes line and they are selling fast.

In assembly, we have discussed with the children about how cool it is to reuse and recycle- we hope that the school uniform shop will send out a clear message that they can make a difference to the world we live in.

Thank you,
The St Alban’s Eco Warriors!

Swapping Card Games – Playtimes

By Community, Dining, PSHE, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5, Year 6

Dear parents and carers,

When children have a proper break during playtime, they tend to perform better in their classes. With this in mind, we are constantly working on making playtimes more enjoyable for all our children.

We have noticed that many children express a keen interest in card games and swapping. If your child would like to take part in card games, then we kindly request that they read this letter.

In the upcoming weeks, we have planned various activities to enhance playtime for the children. Our focus will be on teaching them clapping songs such as “The Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea,” as well as introducing games like French skipping and cat’s cradle. These activities aim to engage the children, promote social interaction, and provide them with a diverse range of play options.

Thank you for your continued support.

Parent Reading Meeting

By Community, English, FS1, FS2, News, Reading, Year 1, Year 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

I would like to express my gratitude to all the parents who attended our reading parents meeting this afternoon. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout. During the session, we discussed the essential techniques for effectively listening to children read using RWInc books.

Today, I will share the notes from the meeting on Class Dojo, which include video links to further support your understanding.  If you have any questions or require additional guidance, approach myself, Mrs. Whyman, or your child’s class teacher. We are all highly knowledgeable in the field of reading and are here to assist you.

For those who were unable to attend this meeting, please note that we will be rescheduling it during the Autumn Term. We believe this information is crucial for your involvement in your child’s reading progress, and we want to ensure that every parent has the opportunity to benefit from this session.

Warm regards,

Mrs Gurner

Music Concert 2023

By Community, Music, News, Newsletter

I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who attended our music concert on Tuesday, June 13th. It was an inspiring event, showcasing the musical talents of our children.

Learning a musical instrument is a remarkable skill that requires dedication and discipline. Our young musicians have shown exceptional commitment, from mastering the art of reading music to coordinating their hands to play an instrument. We couldn’t be prouder of their achievements.

It takes courage for children to stand up individually and perform in front of such a large audience, especially their parents. Well done brave children!

If any parents captured a group photo of the musicians during the concert, we kindly request that you share a copy with the school office.

Once again, thank you for your support and for being a part of our wonderful music concert. We hope to make this an annual event.

Thank you,

Mrs Gurner

Learning from the Muslim way of life

By Community, Religious Education, Year 5

Today, Year 5 were lucky enough to have a visitor. Sabreena came to talk to us about her life.  We asked lots of questions.  We made links between the lives of Muslims and our own lives.  We also thought about the Islamic Pillars.

There are many similarities between the lives of Muslims and the lives of Christians.  Both believe in one God.  Both believe in charity and both have Holy places they try to visit.  Both pray, Muslims fast and Christians give up things for lent.

Thank you for visiting us today. We learned a great deal.
