Hunting Mini Beasts in Y4

By Science

As part of our science topic, we have spent some time this afternoon on the field looking for mini beasts.

Y6 Maths

By Maths, Year 6

Year 6 have been investigating units of measure.  They started out looking at length and measuring objects in the classroom and then they used weighing scales to measure the mass.

Reading scales and converting measures is a very important skill to have.

Y6 Local Walk

By Geography, History, Mental Health, Year 6

Year 6 enjoyed a local walk which including different parts of the curriculum.

Geography

Before the walk, the children had practised drawing sketch maps of the school.  For the walk, the children had looked at compass points and worked out where North was and then during the walk they continued to look at a compass and relate this to the map we were following.

History

The children learnt about different buildings around Wickersley, what they were used for and when they were built.

Mental Health

Sometimes, it’s just good to get out of the classroom and have fun.

Y3 Shadow puppet show

By Drama, Science

Year 3’s science topic this term has been “Light and Dark.”

As part of this topic, we have been investigating how shadows are formed, with the end goal of creating our own shadow puppet performance. We discovered that shadows are formed when light from a source is blocked by an object. Opaque objects created the “best” (darkest and most defined) shadows and so we decided to use black card to make the puppets. We also investigated how the distance between the light source and the object effected the size of the shadow.

Today marked the culmination of all our hard work/experiments, as Year 3 worked in groups to practice and perform their own shadow puppet shows. We had lots of fun watching each others shows while learning about shadows. Not only were we scientists when considering how to make a good shadow but also, we were fantastic actors/actresses when performing! Children used character voices brilliantly and made the story come to life!
