Year 5 have a Norse Visitor

By History, Year 5

Today, Year 5 were lucky enough to have a Norse visitor who shared his knowledge of the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings who raided, traded and settled in Britain from AD 786.

We thought about the role of archaeology and studied artefacts. We looked at them closely and tried to decide what they were made of and how they would have been used.

We tried on clothes and helmets and held swords.

We looked at runes and used them to make a leather key ring.

Carmel Reading Assembly

By House Carmel, Reading, Year 6

Today, the Carmel House Leaders conducted the Carmel House Assembly, where four brave Year Six students shared their favourite books from the classroom library. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to express what they enjoy about the books they have been reading.

Year 2 History- Mary Seacole

By History, Year 2

Year 2 have now started their history unit on Mary Seacole.
I am very impressed with the children’s prior knowledge and it has been lovely to see some of the work children produced on the snow day.

Today, we created a timeline of Mary Seacole’s life, sequencing the most significant events within her lifetime. We used cubes to help us think about this with each cube representing 1 year of Mary Seacole’s life. We noticed that between the age of 45- 50, she was very busy and helped lots of people in Jamaica and Crimea during this period.

Well done Year 2!

SNOW AND ICE UPDATE

By Uncategorized

We have made the decision to close school today for the safety of our families and staff.

Work will be put onto ClassDojo by teachers at around 10.30am. This will allow them time to get home safely and make arrangements for their own children. We understand that due to technology, childcare and the distraction of snow (!) not all work may be completed.

Enjoy your snow day and stay safe x

Year 2 Mechanisms

By Design Technology

In D.T this half-term, Year 2 have been learning all about mechanisms.

First, we investigated existing products and books that have sliders and levers. Next, we created a product specification detailing what our Christmas needed to be successful.

We decided that our Christmas cards needed to:
-have a mechanism
-be bright and coloured neatly
-be Christmas themed.

Then, we did a focused practical task where we had a go at making our own sliders and levers. After looking at lots of other Christmas cards/images, we designed our own products using either a slider or a lever.

We then made our Christmas cards being careful to colour very neatly and not leaving any white gaps (apart from for snow!) Finally, we evaluated our products discussing what we like/dislike and what we would change if we had the chance to do the task again.

I am so impressed with how these have turned out. The children have worked so hard, well done Year 2. Here are a few of our end products but they are all equally amazing.

Year 4 Science: States of Matter II

By Science, Year 4

In Science, we have been learning about the different states of matter and what defines a solid, a liquid and a gas. We discussed how the particles for each state are different. The children then acted out how the particles behave for each state. Then we conducted an experiment to investigate what happens to ice if it is left out at room temeprature.
